Notes
- Sunday Dispatch, September 30, 1936
In September 1936 Aubrey told the Sunday Dispatch the story of how he was able to see after having difficulty seeing since a baby. He had been going blind from birth but when he was just two months old he lost the sight of his left eye. He went on to be a bank clerk but the strain on his right eye brought on a sever attack of Iritis. By 1903 Aubrey had had to give up work. In 1903 he was knocked down by a motorcycle causing him to spend a year and a half in bed. The accident also caused him to be stone deaf. In the 1930's Aubrey was admitted to the Central London Eye Hospital where he underwent several operations by Mr Tudor Thomas, the world famous eye surgeon from Cardiff who pioneered ophthalmic corneaplasty in the 1930's. By the time Aubery went home he could see enough to be able to read.
