On 7 October 1775 The London Gazette gave an account of the address given to George III by James Cavell of the Principal Inhabitants and Manufacturers, of the Borough and Town of Taunton in the County of Somerset. Among the names listed were Joseph Turle, Robert Turell, Joseph Parkhouse, Abraham Collins, William Cogan Jnr and Jenipher Paynter who all pledged to defend and support the King against the American Colonists.
