Notes

  • In his autobiography, the Revd. Nelson Ludlow's gives an account of his life. He married Joyce who was one of the first women surgeons (FRCS in 1927) and they worked together in Nigeria for 20 years.

Joyce had studied with Catherine at medical school and when Joyce and Nelson had to choose a boarding school in England for their son, Peter, they chose one in Herne Bay. Catherine "happily and efficiently acted as universal Aunt for Peter"
